Use this 2026 checklist to evaluate a Chinese PCB manufacturer by capability fit, quality evidence, communication, samples and production control.
Choosing a PCB manufacturer in China should start with your technical requirements, not a supplier ranking. A suitable supplier can explain how your board fits its normal process, identify questions before release, provide evidence for relevant quality claims and control changes from prototype through production.
There is no universal “best” PCB factory. A supplier that works well for a standard rigid prototype may not be the best fit for a controlled-impedance multilayer board, a flexible circuit, a fine-pitch assembly or a repeat production program. The practical goal is to verify fit before you commit a release.
Start with the build requirements, not the supplier list
Supplier comparisons only work when each factory receives the same useful input. Before asking for quotations, prepare a short project brief that states what is known and what is still open.
For a bare PCB, provide the available fabrication files and requirements such as layer count, material family, board thickness, finished copper, controlled impedance, via structure, surface finish, quantity and intended use. If a detail has not been finalized, identify it as open. An explicit unknown is safer than a hidden assumption in a quotation.
For PCBA, define the assembly scope as well. State whether you need bare boards, consigned assembly, partial turnkey or turnkey assembly. Include the available BOM, centroid data, assembly drawing, programming information, test requirements, packaging requirements and target quantity.
Use this project brief checklist:
- Product scope: PCB fabrication, assembly or turnkey PCBA.
- Technical build: layers, material, copper, stackup, impedance, finish and special structures.
- Assembly scope: package types, SMT/THT, sourcing model and required test.
- Quantity and stage: prototype, pilot build or repeat production.
- Acceptance requirements: drawings, approved BOM, inspection, traceability and records.
- Commercial inputs: target delivery, destination, NDA needs and technical contact.

Use a supplier qualification checklist
A credible comparison looks for evidence rather than slogans. Ask each supplier the same questions and record the answers in a common format.

Price matters only when the quoted scope is comparable. A lower quote may reflect a different laminate, finish, test assumption, component source, delivery term or engineering responsibility. Compare those assumptions before comparing totals.
Match the supplier review to your technology risk
The most useful question is not “Can you make PCBs?” It is “How will you manufacture and verify this design?” The answer should change with the technical risk.
Standard rigid boards
For a standard rigid board, confirm the fabrication data, material and finish assumptions, routing and drill details, and board-level inspection or electrical-test scope where applicable. Begin with the decision areas on PCB manufacturing, then confirm project-specific conditions in writing.
Multilayer and controlled-impedance boards
Multilayer boards require a stackup conversation. The proposed material construction, copper distribution, power/ground arrangement and impedance targets should be reviewed together. HDI and fine-pitch assembly
For HDI or dense assemblies, review both the board and assembly risks. Microvia structures, build-up sequence, pad definition, solder-mask opening, land patterns, component packages and test access can affect yield and inspection planning. Flexible, high-current and thermal designs
Flexible circuits, high-current boards and heat-sensitive products need a project-specific conversation. Bend areas, stiffeners, copper balance, heat paths, clearances, materials and assembly handling may matter as much as basic layer count. Verify quality claims and certificate scope
A row of certificate logos does not prove that your product, process, facility or legal entity is covered. When a certificate matters to your project, request the current document and check the certificate holder, covered location, scope, issue date and expiry date.
The same principle applies to inspection and test. AOI, X-ray, electrical test, ICT and functional test answer different questions. None should be treated as a universal default. Define the quality plan based on design risk, package type, test access and agreed acceptance criteria. Use quality control as a starting point for technical questions, not as a substitute for a project quality plan.
Validate with a sample and a controlled first build
Qualification continues after a quotation is accepted. A first build should test whether the files, decisions, communication and approval process work together.
- Review the available files and list all assumptions or missing inputs.
- Resolve engineering questions in writing, including stackup, alternates, panelization, labeling and test scope.
- Confirm that the quotation matches the approved technical scope and lists exclusions.
- Evaluate the sample against agreed requirements, including records and open issues.
- Document the approved revision, BOM version, special instructions and change-control route for the next build.
